Hosting a Portrait Party
What is a portrait party?
Portrait parties are the newest fad of in-home gatherings and portrait photography. The concept is simple – gather a group of guests and their families together in a home for a party and we’ll bring our studio to you! Parties can be general family and children sessions or themed sessions such as babies, seniors, couples, etc… Each guest and their family will get a free 20 minute photo session during the party. While guests are not required to remain at the party for the full length of time, it is a party so hanging out is encouraged to make the time more enjoyable for all guests. Guests, however, are asked to arrive and be prepared for their session at least 5 minutes before their scheduled time slot. There will be no hard sell packages or pressured viewings – just a party and a photography session. Each guest will then be able to view proofs in an online gallery within two weeks of the portrait party. Guests can view these images in the privacy of their own home and order their favorite prints at our regular print pricing. Print order pricing will be provided during the party so that all guests have the information that they need.
What does it take to host a party?
Hosting a portrait party is a great way to bring professional photography into your own home where you’re most comfortable and natural. Hosting a party is simple and straightforward with minimal responsibilities. Hosts are asked to provide a pre-prepared (furniture removed, etc…) open room large enough to be transformed into a photo studio (minimum space of approximately 13x16 is ideal) preferably out of the way of the rest of the party. Outdoor settings are also possible within season, weather permitting. Hosts are also asked to invite 5 to 12 guests and their families and provide a party atmosphere including snack foods, etc… We ask that hosts please provide snack foods that will not get kids dirty easily. In addition, hosts are asked to confirm invitations, complete session time scheduling, and return information forms for all confirmed guests to the photographer at least one week before the date of the portrait party.
What are the benefits of hosting?
Just like other in-home gatherings of this sort, the responsibilities of being a host are easily offset by the special benefits that accompany hosting. First, the host will receive a free 30 minute session prior to the start of the party. Hosts will also receive one free 5x7 print for each guest in attendance, up to 12 free prints. In addition, hosts will receive additional print credits based on the total of sales from their party. For sales totaling up to $500, hosts will receive a print credit worth 10% of the total sales of their party; for sales totaling $501-$1000, hosts will receive a credit of 15% of total sales; and for sales totaling over $1000, hosts will receive a credit worth 20% of the total sales of the party. In addition, hosting a party also entitles the host to a $10 print credit when a future portrait party is booked, and a $20 print credit when a portrait session is booked as a result of your portrait party session. (Please note that a minimum of five guests (and their families when appropriate) are required in order to receive any of the benefits of hosting unless sales total at least $500.)

Attending a Portrait Party
Why attend a Portrait party?
Because it's FUN, that's why! You get to hang out with friends and/or family and get some portraits taken of you and your family in a no pressure, enjoyable, enviornment. Unlike most portrait photography experiences, there are no session fees and no payments required on the day of the party. You won't be pressured to purchase a bigger package or get a bunch of prints that you don't need or want. Even more, you get a 5% discount on print orders if you order prints within the first 48 hours of your proofs being placed online. All you do is give us your e-mail address and we send you a link to your images. You can view them in your home, place your order, and sit back and wait for your prints. How easy is that?
What's the catch to attending?
If you're looking for the fine print, there simply isn't any... Just show up and be ready for your mini-session at least five minutes before it's scheduled start time. Bring any props that you want in your images - blankets, toys, hats, jerseys, etc... - that are special to you or your family. Most importantly, relax, and enjoy yourself!
