Frequently Asked Questions
General Photography FAQ's
Do I get to keep my proofs?
Yes! We believe that if you're going to pay for photography, you should actually get some photos. For this reason, if the package that you choose includes a proof album (including both wedding and portrait photography), it is your's to keep. We provide individual 4x6 images in a professionally engraved leather bound album for all our traditional proof albums. Our digital proof albums contain multiple images on each page and are spiral bound.
How long will it be until I can see my proofs?
We strive to provide a reasonable turn-around for our clients so that they can see the images from their session or wedding in a timely fashion. For most portrait sessions, our proofing turn around is typically two weeks from the time of your session. For weddings, our proofing turn around is typically three to four weeks from the time of your wedding. In addition, if online proofing is a part of your package, you will be able to see your images in our "client galleries" system before receiving your physical proofs.
What is the turn around time for print orders?
We purchase all of our prints, including our proofs, from a very reputable online printing company for professional photographers. They provide great customer service, including a very impressive turn around time. We can typically deliver prints within the Cincinnati area within a week of an order being placed. If we are shipping your print order to you, please allow another two or three days for shipping from us to you. Two to three day turnaround is also available for an additional $20 if a rush order is necessary.
Can I purchase the copyright to my images?
We sell "limited usage releases" on a per image basis. For low-resolution images (functional for web usage only) we charge a fee of $10. For high-resolution images (functional for making prints up to 11x14) we charge a fee of $30. When purchased, your images come on a CD, accompanied by a detailed "limited usage release" which will outline the details of your rights according to the release. All copyrights are retained by Ashley Johnson Photography regardless of "limited usage release" purchases.
Portrait Photography FAQ's
What should I wear to a portrait session?
The short of it is this: Wear what's comfortable and what's you!
The long of it is this: For family photos we suggest that families wear clothing which is all complimentary to each other. It doesn't have to be fully matching but here are few suggestions to avoid - stripes on stripes, plaid on plaid, darks on darks. Simplicity really is better when it comes to clothing choices. After all, we want you to stand out, not your clothes! For in studio portraits, please do not dress your entire family in dark clothes (blacks, navys, etc...) as they provide too much contrast against a white backdrop. More than anything, wear comfortable clothes and clothes that say something about you and your family - jerseys, local school insignias, cowboy boots & hats, etc...
How long does a session last?
Unlike many "big box" photography studios in the Cincinnati area that you go to, we do not set strict time parameters on our portrait sessions. The last thing we want is for you and your family to feel rushed. It's nearly impossible to help you look your best if you feel hurried and unimportant. We take the time to allow you to relax and get comfortable so that you look your best. Typically a portrait session lasts between one and two hours from beginning to end depending on many things. Variables include: on location or in studio, the size of your family, number of outfit changes, etc... At Ashley Johnson Photography, our clients are our number one priority and we schedule our sessions accordingly so that we are not rushed from one into another.
Do you do on location photography?
Yes, we do! We offer in studio photography with traditional studio lighting at our home or in yours. We are also willing to travel within the Cincinnati area at no additional cost to do on location photography. If you have "the perfect spot" in mind, we are more than willing to tag along to capture your memories in the best place. If you want outdoor or location photography, but are not sure where, we can offer some suggestions for scenery and locations as well.
Wedding Photography FAQ's
Do you limit your coverage time for weddings?
When you book your wedding with Ashley Johnson Photography, we provide full day coverage regardless of which package you choose. Our belief is that if we are truly going to capture your wedding day then it makes no sense to cut short opportunities to photograph your moments.
What is your wedding photography style?
We provide a unique blend of wedding photography styles because we provide two photographers at each wedding. Ashley shoots in a more traditional wedding photography style with a modern twist. This is great for capturing bride and groom formals, families, and wedding party pictures. Matt shoots in a more photojournalistic style which strives to capture events as they happen. This is a great way to capture those impromptu kisses, the whispers of your first dance, and all the emotion of your ceremony. Together, we provide a great blend of photography which captures your wedding day in a very creative and unique way. After all, your big day is creative and unique, so shouldn't your photography be as well?
Do you shoot weddings in digital or film?
With the great advancements in digital photography technology over the past few years we have chosen to shoot fully digital. It provides us a great deal of security and creative freedom that is not as easily achieved by using film.
Do you offer online proofing?
Yes, as a courtesy to all of our wedding couples, we provide complimentary online proofing. Our online "client galleries" provide a very simple and useful way to view your proofs and order prints. This makes it easy for distant relatives and friends who were unable to make it to your ceremony to see your images, as well as allowing friends and family to also order prints to remember your wedding.
Do you require a deposit to book my wedding?
Yes, we require a $500 non-refundable retainer fee in order to book your wedding with Ashley Johnson Photography. We will not remove your date from our availability until this has been received. For additional questions or concerns, please contact Ashley directly.
Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, once your deposit has been received, we offer a monthly payment plan to make paying for your wedding photography less of a burden. We do not require full payment before your wedding day, but no items within your package, including the online viewing gallery, will be rendered until your package has been paid in full. For more information about our payment plans, please contact Ashley directly.
